| Biography Professor Peter Hollands PhD (Cantab), FRSB, CBiol Peter trained at Cambridge University under the supervision of the co-inventor of IVF and Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Bob Edwards FRS. His PhD was in stem cell technology with a focus on the transplantation of stem cells from the developing fetus. His post-doctoral position was as a Senior Embryologist at Bourn Hall Clinic which was the first IVF clinic in the world. Peter has been the Scientific Director of Cells for Life in Toronto and Smart Cells in the UK and was HTA Designated Individual for Smart Cells. He has carried out research in stem cell technology and has written numerous papers and book chapters on stem cell technology. He has been an invited speaker to many international conferences including personal invitations to speak twice at the Vatican, the UK House of Lords and The Canadian Parliament. Peter also has experience in creating new stem cell technology laboratories and the related accreditation and regulatory aspects of stem cell laboratories. Peter currently works as the Group Chief Scientific Officer of the worldwide stem cell services company WideCells Group. Peter was awarded a Visiting Chair in Regenerative Medicine from Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine in November 2017. | Biography Mohsen Naraghi is a double-board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than two decades of clinical practice and academic postgraduate teaching experience in rhinology and facial plastic surgery. He was ranked first among all the national graduates of medicine, was awarded the first rank in the national comprehensive medical examinations, graded first in the national board examinations in otolaryngology—head and neck surgery, and also became the fellow of the European board of otorhinolaryngology—head and neck surgery. He continued his training in facial plastic surgery and rhinology fellowship, receiving both the international and European boards for certification in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. In 2004, the President handed him the most prestigious national award in recognition of contributions to surgical science. Dr. Naraghi was the winner of the international award of the American Rhinologic Society in 2005. He was also granted the international award for excellence in medical sciences in the innovation in clinical medicine in 2011. He was awarded the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Honor Award in recognition of his distinguished service on committees, scientific programs, continuing education courses and instruction courses to the Academy in 2015. Sc. in 1989, M.Sc. in 1995 and Ph.D. in 2000 from Biochemistry Department, faculty of science, Ain Shams University, Egypt. He joined the NRC research team since 1994 till now. His research interest is in the area of Molecular biology, microbiology, cancer treating and cancer chemoprevention (including nanomedicine, photodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy) through halting the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis using natural, semi-natural and synthetic agents. | Biography The main idea is connected with a balance in the activity between oncogenes and tumor-suppressor genes, but also between the protein products of both gene types, on cellular and organism levels, both in vitro and in vivo. In this aspect, the main goal is directed to design of maximally safe experimental models for providing, on the one hand, of active tumor-suppressor genes for prevention of eventual malignant transformations, and, on the other hand, of active oncogenes for prevention of early aging and death. Also, adequate cell and/or humoral immune response against side effects, both in vitro and in vivo, should be generated, mainly by the protein products of the oncogenes in their role of active antigens. For gene transfer in laboratory-cultivated normal and malignant cells, as well as in single-cell yeast and bacteria strains, previously designed recombinant gene/DNA constructs, containing the respective genes of interest, but also, on the other hand, appropriate siRNAs for RNA-interference to specific regions of the respective target genes, are necessary. Subsequent investigations on the respective proteins, as well as protein-protein, protein-DNA, protein-RNA, RNA-RNA, RNA-DNA, DNA-DNA, etc. inter-molecular interactions, on both extra-and intra-cellular levels, should also be performed.
