Dr. Kaklamani is an Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Northwestern University. Dr. Amy Fan, MD, PhD, a senior epidemiologist, in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s  Analysis and Survey Methods Team, Population Health Surveillance Branch, Division of Population Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, CDC. She was graduated from Beijng’s Medical University in 1992. She earned a doctorate in Preventive Medicine/Health Behavior Research from the University of Southern California in 2003. Joan R. Griffith has been Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for Ochsner Health System, New Orleans, Louisiana, since July 2012. She earned her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Cincinnati, OH.  She completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.  She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Griffith received her Masters of Public Health in health policy from Harvard University, Boston, MA, in 2007 and Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration from Wilmington College, Wilmington, DE, in 1999. 

After 21 years in the U. S. Air Force, Dr. Griffith retired in 2002 as a Colonel.  While in the military, she held various positions including chief executive office for a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic in Del Rio, Texas; chief of the medical staff at a health maintenance organization at Dover Air Force Base; and chief of pediatrics at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Before moving to New Orleans, she was a tenured associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Toledo and served as interim Department Chair for 17 months.  She has published several scientific articles in peer review journals and authored numerous abstracts, book reviews and popular articles.  She is a national speaker on topics such as adolescent suicide, adolescent development and health issues as well as childhood and adolescent obesity.  In 2006, Dr. Griffith was selected for The Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy and the Marquis “Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.”  She was awarded the Jefferson Award at the University of Toledo in 2011.

Giulio Maria Pasinetti is the Chief of the Brain Institute Center of Excellence for Novel Approaches to Neurodiagnostics and Neurotherapeutics and is a professor of Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuroscience, Geriatrics and Adult Development at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He also serves as the Director of the Basic and Biomedical Research and Training, Geriatric Education and Clinical at the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Tamotsu Tsukahara is currently an Associate Professor at the Kanazawa Medical University in Kanazawa, Japan. He received a B.S. degree in biochemistry from the Kitasato University, Tokyo, Japan. He then moved to Hokkaido University where he studied aspects of lipid metabolism in human platelet during his Ph.D. degree. After completing his Ph.D. degree in 2002, he joined Dr. Gabor Tigyi lab at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Memphis in USA for his first postdoctoral studies. During his postdoctoral work, he began to characterize novel lipid molecule that target PPARg for the treatment of plaque-related diseases such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. After joining Dr. Tigyi’s lab, he has been exposed to many cutting-edge techniques, including in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Baker at the University of Memphis. From 2008-2013, he was an assistant professor of physiology at the School of Medicine at the Shinshu University, Matsumoto, Japan. He received selected awards and honors such as an Astellas Foundation for Research on Metabolic Disorders (2010), and Takeda Science Foundation (2011). He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications including Molecular Cell, JBC, and PLoS ONE. His major goal is to discover antagonist of PPARg and its characterization that inhibit foam cell and neointima formation.

Dr. TomoYonezawa received Ph.D from Department of Animal Physiology, Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University, Japan. He was a Research Fellow (DC1) of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science as a Ph.D student. At that time, he had expertise in Physiology, Endocrinology and Cell Biology. His Ph.D thesis was to analyze the function of free fatty acid receptors such as GPR40, 41 and 43 on mammary epithelial cells. Subsequently, he joined Genodive Pharma Inc. established by the chairman of Tokai University, school of medicine, and developed drug discovery for autoimmune diseases and cancer, which was collaborated with The University of Tokyo. After going back to Tokai University, he tried to establish novel small compound for type 2 diabetes using combination with in-silico analysis based on protein structural information and proteomics approach. After that, he got a Research Fellow of Young Research Overseas Visits Program for Vitalizing Brain Circulation and then made an effort to elucidate the function of miRNAs involved in the pathogenesis of arthritis in National Research Institute for Child Health and Development, Japan and the Scripps Research institute, United States. After that, he was positioned as research assistant professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. Currently, he is an assistant professor at Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences, Tokyo University of Science. He has focused on the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and chronic low-grade inflammation-induced metabolic diseases using genetically modified mice.

Dr. Saisho received his medical degree in 1998 and his PhD degree in 2009, both from the Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo. Before obtaining his current position as assistant professor, he completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center at the University of California-Los Angeles’s David Geffen School of Medicine (Prof. Peter C. Butler). He has served as chief resident in the Department of Internal Medicine in Shizuoka and at Hiratsuka Municipal Hospital in Hiratsuka, Japan and was also a clinical fellow in the Division of Nephrology, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Keio University School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine. Yumi Matsushita, Ph.D. is Chief of Department of Clinical Research, National Center for Global Health and Medicine. His speciality is the epidemiology of metabolic diseases and has been doing research on the epidemiology of lifestyle-related diseases. Currently, he is conducting an epidemiological study that analyzes the relationship between areas of fat (visceral and subcutaneous) measured by CT and diseases (diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and CVD events) cross-sectionally and longitudinally in approximately 12,000 people. The purpose of the study is to determine the physique that increases the risk of these various pathologies by sex and age. This was the largest epidemiological study in the world. As an international epidemiological study, he conducted a cohort study that examines in detail in terms of both genetic factors and environmental factors to identify risk factors for development of lifestyle-related diseases in developed and developing countries. In addition, he independently developed the ‘Lifestyle-related diseases prevention program’ using the Internet which was successfully put into practical use and provided for participants to use beginning in 2013.
