Biography Evan Ong currently working as Associate Professor in the Section of Surgical Oncology and Dr. Ong grew up in the Upstate New York area, graduated with a BA and MA degree from Harvard University, and received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. He then matched his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago-Cook County Program. During his surgical residency, Dr. Ong spent an additional 2 years as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Pharmacology studying molecular and cellular mechanisms of inflammation and completed Master of Science degree. From there, Dr. Ong matched into a surgical oncology fellowship at the first cancer center of the United States, Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. After completing his fellowship, he was recruited to join the Surgical Oncology/ HPB Section at the University of Arizona. Dr. Wang's currently working as a associate professor at University of Cincinnati Cardiovascular Diseases Center. His research activities focus on stem cell therapies using three animal models. These models are myocardial infarction (MI) via ligation of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, heterotopic heart transplantation, and the use of a special cell patch to treat MI. These models are used to explore the role of progenitor cell differentiation, migration, and proliferation on protection and functional regeneration of injured heart tissue.The goal of Dr. Wang's projects as a collective and unified research and discovery program is to identify and develop new strategies that enhance the application of cell-based therapies for myocardial tissue regeneration.
