Dr. Mark Stephen Kindy is majored in Biochemistry and Professor/Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology and Neurosciences at the Medical University of South Carolina and a Senior Research Career Scientist/Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. He obtained Ph.D. in Genetics from University of Havana, Cuba in 1995. In 1994 he was the Principal Investigator of the team at CIGB that developed the cattle tick commercially named GavacTM. In 2007, He moved to Australia after accepting a position at Department of Primaries Industries and Fisheries (DPIF), Queensland, as the lead scientist on a tick vaccine research program. Since 2010, his position at DPIF was transferred to the University of Queensland where currently he worked as Senior Research Fellow of ‘Queensland Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation’ (QAAFI). In 2013, he was granted an OECD research fellowship at the USDA- Livestock Insects Research Laboratory, Texas. He is a Member for various societies Nationally and Internationally. During this program, Journal Clubs were held and led by Dr Simonetta Viviani, where he learned to criticize peer-reviewed articles in the field of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases. From May to October 2014, he was an intern at Novartis vaccines in Siena (now GSK) where he involved in clinical trials projects. Dr. Yehia Saleh Ahmed Mohamed is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. He obtained Ph.D. in Immunology in 2011 from Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, College of Medicine and Biological Sciences, Leicester University, UK. He is also Principle Investigator for the Research Projects. He is a Member for the International and National Scientific Societies including British Society of Immunology; European Association for Cancer Research; Saudi Society for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology; Egyptian Syndicate of Pharmacists, and Egyptian Society of Immunology. He was awarded with fully funded Scholarship and Leicester University award for best posters, postgraduate competition. Biography
Pamela J. Glass, Ph.D., has a long history in biodefense research with over 15 years of experience in viral vaccine, therapeutic and animal model development. Her lab is currently focused on the development of medical countermeasures for biodefense needs. Specifically her research efforts include the development and characterization of vaccines against filoviruses and alphaviruses, broad spectrum therapeutics against diverse set of viral agents, and animal model development for eventual licensure of these medical countermeasures. These projects involve studies to examine the effectiveness and targets of potential therapeutics against viruses in vitro and in vivo, as well as safety and efficacy of vaccines in animal models of infection. Biography
Mr. Sachin Thakkar is currently a final year graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA. He is currently working on a novel rapid freezing technology to prepare dry powder vaccines using aluminum salt as an adjuvant, to overcome its long lasting problem of aggregating upon freezing. He is also working on the mucosal delivery these powder vaccines to enable needle free immunization. Additionally, he is also working on understanding the mechanisms of the better adjuvant activity of the aluminum nanoparticles, and microneedle based transdermal nanoparticulate vaccine delivery systems. His research article was chosen as a cover story by the Journal of Controlled Release. He is also recipient of theAmerican Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Graduate Student Research Award in Biotechnology, and American Association of Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAiPS) Graduate Student Research Award 2016. He was also awarded Dean’s fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin. He serves as a student representative for the Manufacturing Science and Engineering section (MSE), and secretary for the Excipient Focus Group (EFG) at the AAPS organization. He is Reviewer for more than 10 different journals and is serving on editorial board for around 8 journals.
